Stitch n' Sip - Benefits of Social Knitting

I've been wanting to get a regular knitting circle organized for quite sometime. There are so many great benefits to knitting and being creative! When you combine that with connecting with other like minded people, the benefits are increased! I also want to break down the stereotypes and stigmas around knitting/crocheting and crafting! You can be a knitter and also be a bad-ass, kick-ass, cool dude or chick! I really want to get more men knitting but that's a whole other nugget.

Knitting is no longer an ""old granny"" activity! According the the Craft Yarn Council, a third of women between the ages of 25 and 35 knit or crochet. People of all ages are picking up the craft.

So why social knitting? In the age of smartphones and social media, we are spending more and more time interacting behind screens. We are less likely to interact in social settings. And, as we get older, it gets increasingly difficult to make new friends! Most people have their friend group established and the little free time we have, we usually want to spend with our families or we are busy taking care of our families.

I believe taking a couple of hours a month to do something creative AND just for you, is so important. Creativity has the same benefits as meditation but making something tangible (whether it is knitted or another creative outlet) also gives you a sense of accomplishment and can increase your self-esteem. Connecting with others who share the same passion and who you can lean on for words of encourage when your item turns out wonky or to provide support when you are stuck, is a great extension to just knitting or creating on your own.

So for all of these reasons, I am starting the little seed knits monthly stitch n' sip. This is not your grandma's knitting circle! Come and hang out with a group of cool, like-minded people who also love to knit and/or crochet. Bring your latest project, grab a drink and stitch the night away!
